Employment Law Alliance Founder and CEO and Hirschfeld Kraemer LLP Co-managing Partner Stephen J. Hirschfeld is quoted in San Francisco Times cover story "Workers on demand, or on their own?"

The article explores worker classification -- employee versus independent contractor -- in the "sharing economy."

Hirschfeld comments, "Peer-to-peer or shared economy businesses are built on the notion that both the providers of these services and consumers are working cooperatively and voluntarily together in a symbiotic relationship," likening the situation to eBay facilitating transactions between buyers and sellers.

He later adds, "The courts haven't yet caught up with applying old-world legal principles to these new-world businesses."
