An outstanding legal academic and a leading counsel in the area of dispute resolution and international arbitration, Professor Tan brings with him extensive experience as counsel and arbitrator. Professor Tan joins WongPartnership as its fourth Senior Counsel, solidifying the Firm’s market leading position in dispute resolution and international arbitration.

In addition to being a Professor of Law and Chief Strategy Officer at NUS law school, Professor Tan is the first appointed and current Chairman of SGX RegCo. Arising from his position as the Chairman of SGX RegCo, Professor Tan will not be involved in any SGX-matters in his role with WongPartnership. Prior to his appointment as the Chairman of SGX RegCo, he was a Director of several listed entities, including Chuan Hup Holdings Ltd (as Board Chair) and Keppel REIT. He was also a Director of ST Aerospace Ltd, ST Marine Ltd, and NTUC Income. He had also served as the Dean of the City University of Hong Kong School of Law and the Chair Professor of Commercial Law. Before moving to Hong Kong, Professor Tan was Dean of the NUS law school from 2001 to 2011. He obtained his Master of Laws from the University of Cambridge in 1990 and was appointed Senior Counsel at the age of 39, becoming the first academic with an active counsel practice to be so appointed. Professor Tan has also over the years been active in public service including being Chairman of the Public Accountants Oversight Committee, the Media Literacy Council, NTUC First Campus and Caritas Singapore. He has also served as Deputy Chairman of Sport Singapore and the Singapore Exchange’s Listing Advisory Committee, and on the boards of the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore and the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority. His other public appointments include that as a member of the Military Court of Appeal and as a Specialist Judge.
