Mrs. Rivera-Rubio is a labor and employment attorney and litigator who takes pride in working with companies to achieve their operational goals in a legal, practical, and cost-effective manner. For more than a decade, she has counseled employers in business closing and acquisitions with more than 500 employees in Puerto Rico and the United States. Mrs. Rivera-Rubio has negotiated collective bargaining agreements in multiple units with hundreds of employees; and has developed personnel manuals for companies of all sizes including some more than 5,000 employees.
As part of the matters she handles day to day, Mrs. Rivera-Rubio advises employers on different topics, including wage and hour laws, reasonable accommodation requests, disciplinary matters, wrongful terminations, discrimination, retaliation, labor issues, sexual harassment, transfer of a going business, contracts, and other employment-related issues. She is also an active litigator who defends complex litigation claims in courts and represents employers in different venues, including arbitrations before the Conciliation and Arbitration Bureau, administrative proceedings before the Puerto Rico Anti-Discrimination Unit, the Office of Mediation and Adjudication, Puerto Rico's Labor Standards Bureau, the Puerto Rico State Insurance Fund Corporation, the Women’s Advocate Office, among other agencies and several divisions of the Puerto Rico Department of Labor. Mrs. Rivera-Rubio listens to and collaborates with each client to create and carry out legal strategies to obtain the best possible result. She has vast experience helping businesses comply with rules, regulations, and statutes impacting the employment relationship.
She is a frequent speaker at the annual conventions and meetings of different professional associations such as the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-PR), the Puerto Rico Employer’s Committee, as well as meetings for a wide variety of private employers and government agencies. In 2021 she became the Professional Development Director for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-PR) and a member of the Board of Directors. Together with her partner Jorge Pizarro, Mrs. Rivera Rubio was a pioneer instructing and training multiple companies regarding the implementation of the labor reform in Puerto Rico, approved on January 26, 2017. She has also authored multiple articles on the new labor legislation in Puerto Rico.
