Andrea began her legal career at another leading regional law firm in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she practiced as an associate and a partner, establishing and growing a robust business immigration practice before moving, in 2016, to a law firm affiliated with a “Big Four” accounting firm, to launch their immigration practice in Atlantic Canada. In 2021, Andrea moved her immigration law practice to the boutique firm Barteaux Labour and Employment Lawyers Inc., joining McInnes Cooper when we merged with Barteaux Lawyers in 2025. Andrea’s interest in immigration law developed while she clerked for Justices Julius Isaac and Allen Linden at the Federal Court of Appeal after law school.
Andrea has been recognized by the International Who’s Who Legal since 2014 as one of the leading corporate immigration lawyers in Canada; she has been named among the Best Lawyers: Immigration Law since 2016; she has been identified in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory since 2017 as a Leading Practitioner in Immigration Law; and since 2022 has been recognized as one of Canada’s top immigration lawyers by Chambers and Partners in the Chambers Global Legal Guide.
Andrea is a frequent speaker and writer on topics related to Canadian immigration law. She enjoys mentoring lawyers and paralegals new to immigration law and believes it is her responsibility to help make immigration representation accessible to those who cannot afford a lawyer by representing some clients on pro-bono basis.
