Ian practices in the areas of employment law and litigation, higher education law and litigation, and commercial/tort litigation. He has served as lead trial counsel in numerous employment cases including race, gender, age, national origin and disability discrimination claims; failure to accommodate claims; statutory and common law whistleblower and retaliation claims; hybrid Section 301 actions; and non-compete and other employment contract litigation. Ian has regularly served as lead counsel in employment class actions and other complex employment litigation, and has also argued cases before the Missouri Supreme Court, the Illinois Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He recently served as lead counsel for several amici in a brief filed with the United States Supreme Court in Vance v. Ball State University involving the definition of “supervisor” under Title VII. In addition to litigation matters, Ian regularly provides training, creates and revises policies, and provides other preventative law counsel to clients throughout Missouri and Illinois.
