SyCipLaw has been nominated for two awards at the TrustLaw Awards 2026, recognizing the Firm’s pro bono work and cross-border collaboration in support of civil society initiatives.
TrustLaw, the global pro bono legal service network of the Thomson Reuters Foundation, connects non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and societal enterprises with leading law firms worldwide to provide free legal assistance.
The Firm’s work on the “JUSTICE with PRIDE: LGBTQIA+ Community Legal Guidebook” has been nominated for the Impact Award, which recognizes outstanding legal research initiatives that have created meaningful and demonstrable benefits for pro bono clients and the community they serve.
Developed in partnership with MujerLGBT+ Organisation and the British Embassy Manila, the guide aims to improve access to legal resources for the LGBTQIA+ community. The project was led by Partner Ma. Patricia B. Paz-Jacoba, with contributions from Associate Deniel R. Uezono.
SyCipLaw’s pro bono work extends across multiple initiatives. In addition, the “Guide to Criminal Defamation in Southeast Asia”, released by the Probe Media Foundation, has been nominated for the Collaboration Award, which recognizes outstanding partnerships that demonstrate the value and impact of effective cross-border cooperation in pro bono work.
The Firm led regional coordination for the project and prepared the Philippine chapter of the guide, which examines criminal defamation laws and their implications for press freedom. The work was handled by Partner Ricardo Jesus E. Gutierrez, with contributions from Senior Associates Javierose M. Ramirez and Christopher A. Capulong, and Associate Jon Ericson T. Ledesma. The project was undertaken in collaboration with regional law firms including Aqran Vijandran and DFDL.
These nominations underscore SyCipLaw’s continued commitment to advancing access to justice and strengthening regional legal collaboration.
