Lexology has published the 2026 edition of its In-Depth Fintech Law guide, with the Philippine chapter co-authored by SyCipLaw Partner John Paul V. de Leon, together with Associates Patrick Edward L. BalisongPatricia E. RamosGraciella Rachel D. Robles, and Robert M. Sanders, Jr.

The chapter provides valuable insights into the evolving fintech landscape in the Philippines, covering key licensing and regulatory requirements, common business models and digital markets, as well as intellectual property and data protection considerations.

The authors discuss the current role of Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in fostering a regulatory environment aimed at expanding access to financial services, alongside the growing adoption of digital payment platforms in the Philippine market. At the same time, regulators have intensified enforcement actions through advisories, warnings, and protective orders against non-compliant entities.

The guide also notes that the BSP is developing a roadmap on the use of artificial intelligence in monitoring financial systems, strengthening fraud detection, and addressing cybersecurity risks, subject to continued regulatory oversight.
