Cynthia Chung appointed vice president of Employment Law Alliance Cynthia Chung, partner, was appointed as the vice president of the Employment Law Alliance (ELA). As vice president, Cynthia’s primary role is to serve as an ELA ambassador, and will serve as a great role model and spokesperson for their members.

The ELA offers a comprehensive and cost-effective way for multi-state and multi-national companies to ensure legal compliance around the globe. The ELA is a network of over 3,000 lawyers providing employment and labour expertise in more than 120 countries around the world, including all 50 U.S. States.

Deacons wins at China Law & Practice Awards 2017 We are delighted to announce that Deacons has recently won “Firm of the Year” for Hong Kong at the China Law & Practice annual awards. This is the fifth consecutive year the firm has won this award, reinforcing our position as Hong Kong’s own world-class law firm.

The awards ceremony took place on September 14th in Beijing. The evening celebrates the top deals and top law firms in China in key practice areas. The winners are judged on their professional accomplishments as well as advocacy and influence within their fields over the last 12 months.

Asian Legal Business (ALB), a Thomson Reuters publication has published its annual Corporate M&A rankings report 2017 while Deacons continues to be ranked among top Hong Kong M&A practices.

Machiuanna Chu attends the 2017 Lex Mundi Asia/Pacific Regional Conference and the International Bar Association (IBA) Annual Conference Machiuanna Chu, partner, attended the 2017 Lex Mundi Asia/Pacific Regional Conference in Sydney between 5-7 October 2017.

The Conference was designed to provide participants with a better understanding of how global developments impact doing business in the Asia/Pacific region and abroad. Experts and industry leaders met to explore mega trends and developments in the region including the rise of Fintech, trade agreements such as OneBelt/One Road and the emergence of NewLaw, helping the Lex Mundi member firm participants better serve their clients.

Machiuanna also attended the 2017 IBA Annual Conference in Sydney between 8-13 October 2017. The Conference provided an opportunity for participants to exchange knowledge and to create and renew a global netweok of colleagues and business contacts.

Myles Seto speaks at conferences about Belt and Road Initiatives Myles Seto, partner, recently spoke at a conference in Zhou Shan, PRC which was co-organised by The Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government and The Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

Myles also gave a lecture in Hong Kong for government officials from Jiangsu’s Development of Commerce, and entrepreneurs from Jiangsu Province about the Belt and Road Initiatives organized by the Hong Kong Government, Ministry of Commerce of the PRC, National Development and Reform Commission of the PRC and others. Participants and organisers found Myles’ sharing very informative and practical.
