New Regulation on Prevention of Discrimination and its Implications on Working Life 

Equality principle in the Turkish Constitution as well as the equal treatment principle regulated under the Labour Law has been the regulations which are applied to prevent all kinds of discriminatory practice in working life. However, these regulations have failed to provide sufficient protection against discrimination in working life. Therefore, there was a need for a more efficient system. In this context, Turkey Human Rights and Equality Institution Law (the ‘‘Law’’), which comprises important provisions regarding discrimination, was enacted by the Turkish Grand National Assembly on 6th April 2016. This Law is a significant regulation in harmonization to the European Union Acquis. Turkey Human Rights Institution, which is established in 2012, has been changed to Turkey Human Rights and Equality Institution (the ‘‘Institution’’) and it has been empowered to prevent discrimination, take necessary actions and apply administrative sanctions.
