Hirschfeld Kraemer's Stephen Hirschfeld has been named to the “BTI Client Service All-Stars 2017” list. He is one of only five California employment lawyers and one of only 28 employment lawyers in the country to be recognized “by clients for client service excellence”

The “All-Stars” list is compiled by the BTI Consulting Group. Selectees are nominated, by name, by a client during the course of independent interviews conducted in conjunction with BTI’s Annual Survey of In-House Counsel. That process involves more than 300 one-in-one interviews with general counsel and direct reports at large and Fortune 1000 companies.

Hirschfeld’s practice involves labor and employment law on behalf of management in both the private and public sector. He advises clients – ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small, privately-owned businesses and higher education institutions –  throughout the country on day-to-day legal issues affecting the workplace, including: employee discipline and terminations; union organizing; workforce reductions; discrimination claims; proprietary information and trade secrets disputes; substance abuse; workplace privacy; disability accommodations; executive employment contracts; internal investigations involving employee, student and faculty misconduct; faculty tenure issues; and other human resources issues.

In addition, Hirschfeld regularly defends employers in state and federal courts in disputes involving discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, trade secrets/unfair competition and wage and hour law. He assists multi-national clients by conducting worldwide employment law audits to ensure they are in full compliance with all applicable employment and labor laws.

An accomplished litigator, Hirschfeld has tried to verdict more than 100 cases before courts, arbitrators, administrative law judges and government agencies and has a “win rate” of more than 90 percent. Included in this tally is a successful argument before the Supreme Court of California regarding a seminal wage and hour issue.

In addition to his role at HK, Hirschfeld founded and currently serves as CEO of the San Francisco-based Employment Law Alliance (ELA). The ELA is the world’s largest network of labor and employment and immigration attorneys, with members in more than 135 jurisdictions, including every U.S. state and each Canadian province.

A frequent commentator and presenter, Hirschfeld is regularly quoted in publications including the San Francisco Chronicle and the Los Angeles times and is routinely selected to present to industry organizations such as the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and HR West.

Honored by his peers in the legal and business communities, Hirschfeld has been named by Lawdragon/HR Executive as “One of America’s 100 Most Powerful Employment Attorneys” every year since 2009 and by Super Lawyers as a “Northern California Super Lawyer” every year since 2007. Chambers USA has included him in its “Leaders in Their Field” feature since 2010.

Hirschfeld is a graduate of George Washington University Law School (J.D., 1982) and St. Lawrence University (B.A., 1979).
