Hirschfeld Kraemer LLP Partner Daniel H. Handman is quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle article titled, "Waymo: Uber, ex-Google engineer in 'cover-up scheme.'" The piece details the May 3 hearing in the trade secrets dispute before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Waymo, the self-driving car unit of Google parent Alphabet, alleges that former employee Anthony Levandowski illegally took proprietary information regarding self-driving vehicles to his new employer Otto, a self-driving unit of Uber. In the hearing, lawyers for Waymo argued that Uber should cease its work on self-driving vehicles until the trade secrets suit is completed.
Handman commented that he would not be surprised if the judge presiding over the matter matter, William Alsup, issued a temporary injunction barring Levandowsk from working with Uber. He added:
Similarly, it is entirely reasonable to think that Uber will be ordered to turn over the so-called ‘treasure trove’ of disputed documents or face a major adverse inference at trial,” he said in an email. “What remains unlikely, however, is Alsup granting a broad injunction keeping Uber out of the autonomous vehicle business.
