FLORIDA - January 4, 2018 - Florida's Department of Economic Opportunity has announced a new minimum wage that went into effect on January 1, 2018. The minimum wage was raised from $8.10 an hour by fifteen cents to $8.25 an hour. For employees subject to the tip credit, the tipped minimum wage will also rise to $5.23 an hour, plus tips.

Employers must pay Florida based employees the higher of the federal minimum wage or the Florida minimum wage. The current federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. Therefore, unless the federal minimum wage is raised to over $8.25, the Florida minimum wage will apply to Florida employees.

Florida employers are required to post a minimum wage notice in a conspicuous and accessible place in every establishment where nonexempt employees work. Florida's minimum wage poster is available in English and Spanish from the department's website by clicking here.
